It has been my privilege to work with the following selection of exceptionally well-led schools. Some have introduced VT already and Sharnbrook Upper, Royds Hall, The National School, Tuxford, Bluecoats Birmingham and others are mature and outstanding examples of good practice. There are many others listed below. Schools planning to VT are at the bottom of the list chronologically so the more experienced VT schools are towards the top of the list below. Most schools listed have intoduced vertical systems successfully as a result of deep training and advice. Some may have ignored advice. All are diverse, great schools and a source of advice and learning should you wish to contact them. Most of my work is done in a bespoke way with individual schools and ideally involves a) briefing the Leadership Team and testing the school's ideas b) giving whole staff training in a morning session (3 hours). The LT Training stage and briefing is the most critical. SCHOOLS THAT DO NOT ENSURE THAT THE LT IS FULLY BRIEFED TO LEAD AND NURTURE SUCH A BIG CULTURAL CHANGE (real Transformation) WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES or REAP THE BENEFITS OF VT. Please contact me direct if you think you need help with training / advice and information. (also see training page).

Making the Transition to
Vertical Tutoring..
First: here are three easy ways to mess up the transition to VT.
1.
Go to your local untrained school and see what they do. They will tell you of
their great success and you will believe they have got it right.
(Ignorance) How will you know what to look for and what to ask without training??
2. Copy or adapt the model (inherit the faults) and don't allow the staff to have intensive training and input. You will then end up with the same school you had in the first placebut with the kids in mixed groups (arrogance)
3. Pretend it all works well (ignorance and arrogance) and spread poor practice to other schools
The
change to VT and the introduction of REAL academic tutorials (the parts
that seem to cause schools most challenge) should be a creative
experience and schools that I have worked with are all extremely
positive about the transition process. For Leadership Teams, training
can be a challenge to them in part because the NPQH teaches compliance
to a system that simply does not work and which is designed to cut out
mavericks!
I cannot guarantee that all of these schools have got VT right but most understand VT and should get things right over time. Some are just flying...
Talking about flying, this is a Jay on my allotment that seems to have adopted me or vv. Now how about that for Vertical Tutoring?
